Always a coin toss between The Pig and The Chook at 4 Pines. Today the coin landed on Tails...pig tails. Amazing burger. Super spicy today (was told the fresh chillies are really hot at the moment ) but it just meant I had a good excuse to order another beer.

Bangin’ burger this. Big, bold and beautiful. Very meaty but the acidity of the pickles helped out hugely. This is a big burger but the bun rode out the filling well, holding on until the last bite. Excited to see which new burgers come around next week.

One of the crunchiest chicken burgers I’ve ever had, but so enjoyable. The bird was moist and tender and the chilli, peanut and sriracha sauce combos left a lovely tingle in the throat. Pickled veg brought some balance to the crunchy chicken but yeh, really loved it especially with the textural variance and satay flavours 🤤 only negatives were it was exxy with added chips and bacon, and the latter was a bit lost in the poultry onslaught 🐓

Burger Fridays gather space with the office crew. Back to 4 Pines round the corner. Opted for the entry level cheese burger this time. A great stomach-space-fillet (SSF): not too big, not too small; just right. Great balance between the char of the outside of the burger and the sweet pink hues of the meat inside. Just delicious. I love their pickles here too, not overly sweet nor spicy, but a savoury crunch hat compliments the sweetness of the bun and patty.

Question: is a burger still regarded as a sandwich and if so when does a burger cease to be a burger and start being a sandwich that isn’t identified as a burger? I don’t know the answer. I do however know the The Pig is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The most tender, sweet, tangy, smoky pork belly is matched with pickled cabbage, fiery red chillies and an amazing sauce of Yuzu and chilli. This was so delicious I could have eaten two. I fall short of giving it 5 because I want to keep searching for the perfect burger. Does it exist? Is this in fact, it? It’s simply too soon to tell.

Back to my new local after a January hiatus. Went for 4 Pines’ double burger with bacon this time, The Crown Royale. An amazing burger - gochujang mayo and savoury pickles set off the sweetness of the double patty and the crispy bacon. The burger pattie were perfectly pink inside. Top ingredients making for a top burger. Delicious.
