Usually if I go for a vege burger, I prefer ones that don't pretend to be a real burger. In this case, however, the faux meats were good enough and the vege burger poor enough that the standard Portobello mushroom was way behind the standard of the others I had. It was just so meh. The mushroom was... fine... but not brilliant, and there was absolutely nothing to give this one some meaningful texture. Even a change to iceberg lettuce would have provided something like a texture differential. Too watery and forgettable. Probably one to be avoided.

The chicken itself isn't quite as impressive as the beef, but it still has a decent coating, with tang and crunch. The 'meat' is fine, and impressive for what it is, but not as likely to fool anyone. The apple slaw adds a nice flavour with some texture contrast.

Same as the chilli one, this had the Beyond 2.0 subbed in, and it was tasty enough. The 'bacon' had roughly the right flavour and texture, but was more impressive for its mimicry than its brilliance. Otherwise a bit dull.

Met my vegan sister for lunch. She (and I) wanted to try a variety of burgers on the menu, since they've apparently recently reworked their faux meat. We decided to split 4, so I was going to review two of them... but I ended up eating basically 3/4 of each one so I'll review them all. Added the new Beyond 2.0 patty to this and was actually quite impressed. It's no expertly cooked smashed beef patty, but honestly I'd be happy to be served this patty at a cafe or non-regular burger joint. The sauce was legit good, creamy and tasty, and the bun was fresh.

This is actually for their beyond burger, with their new beyond patty 2.0. First time trying Beyond patty and was impressed, tender and juicy and flavoursome...it passes the test as a decent beef alternative, but it's nowhere near as good as the best beef patties I've had in the past. My friend said that the beyond burger was better at Ribs and Burgers...so I think that it's how the burger is prepared as an overall package that may make other beyond burgers better than others. Soul Burger needs to up their bun game...it's too doughy and distracts you from the main event itself. Other than that, it's an okay burger. As beyond burger (and impossible burger) begin their rise in the mainstream market (Grilld etc), it is nice to see vegans have better choices now. rise in the (bK in meatfree Monday they
